13:08 – IDF’s Gaza Division is reinforced as Israel prepares for Oct. 7 commemoration events

The IDF released this statement on Sunday: “In preparation for the October 7th commemoration events, additional defense personnel have been deployed near the Gaza Strip. This is being conducted according to the situational assessment and alongside ongoing operational activity in the Gaza Strip.”

“The Southern Command is preparing for both defensive and offensive scenarios over the coming month while ensuring the safe proceeding of memorial ceremonies near the Gaza Strip.

“Ahead of the October 7th commemoration events, a detailed combat readiness plan was implemented. The IDF’s Gaza Division has been reinforced with several platoons, with forces stationed to defend both the communities and the border area. The soldiers are fully equipped to defend the region in coordination with local security forces, the Israel Police, and Magen David Adom, ensuring a comprehensive response to any incidents that may arise.”

“In addition to reinforcing defensive units, three divisions are currently operating within Gaza, continuing their mission to dismantle terrorist infrastructure and degrade Hamas’ capabilities until all war objectives are achieved.”

11:25 – UN secretary-general Guterres tells Netanyahu – UNRWA is in danger of ceasing operations

UN Sec.-Gen. António Guterres, who was declared a ‘persona non grata’ by Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz, sent Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu a letter during the Rosh Hashanah holiday in which he expressed deep concern about legislation in the Knesset targeting UNRWA. Guterres warned that if the legislation is passed, UNRWA would not be able to continue operating in Israel and the Palestinian Territories, claiming that he would then have to bring the issue before the UN General Assembly.

The bill, which would sever ties between the State of Israel and the UN agency, is expected to be approved by the Knesset’s Foreign Affairs and Security Committee at its meeting on Sunday. The bill would prohibit all contact between Israeli government representatives and UNRWA officials. Practically, this would mean that the Ministry of Interior would no longer issue entry visas to UNRWA employees. Additionally, customs employees would no longer handle any items imported by the agency. Finally, the agency’s tax exemptions would also be canceled.

In his letter, Guterres asked Netanyahu to intervene on UNRWA’s behalf.

8:54 – Division 162 has left Philadelphi Corridor; now operating in Gaza Strip’s north: “The encirclement of the Jabaliya area has been completed”

IDF: Following prior IDF intelligence, an ongoing situational assessment, and IDF activity in the field that all indicated the presence of terrorists and terror infrastructure in the area of Jabaliya in the northern Gaza Strip, as well as efforts by Hamas to rebuild its operational capabilities in the area, the 162nd Division began operating in the Jabaliya area overnight (Sunday).

The troops of the 401st Brigade and the 460th Brigade have successfully encircled the area and continue to operate there.

Before and during the operation, the IAF struck dozens of military targets to assist IDF ground troops. The targets that were struck included weapons storage facilities, underground infrastructure sites, terrorist cells, and additional military infrastructure sites.

8:39 – IDF: 2 surface-to-surface missiles launched from Lebanon were successfully intercepted

The IDF spokesperson further updated on the alerts that were activated a short time ago and stated that the Air Force successfully intercepted two surface-to-surface missiles launched from Lebanon.

The alarms were activated in the areas of Haifa, Caesarea and Netanya, as well as in several other communities that were not evacuated.

7:59 – IDF drops banners in the center and north of the Gaza Strip, planning to expand the humanitarian zone in Al-Mawasi

The IDF announced the expansion of the Humanitarian Area in Al-Mawasi in the Gaza Strip. The expanded Humanitarian Area includes field hospitals that were established since the outbreak of the war, tent compounds, and supplies of food, water, medicine, and medical equipment.

For this purpose, two humanitarian evacuation routes from northern Gaza have been reopened: One along the Salah al-Din Road and the other along the Al-Rashid coastal road.

Additionally, the IDF has published maps for Palestinian civilians highlighting potential evacuation areas in northern Gaza, including “block zones” that correspond to neighborhoods and regions.
