Morocco lost 2-0 to Paraguay to open group play, with Fátima Acosta scoring a pair of goals in the victory for the Paraguay side. Morocco is playing in the U-20 Women’s World Cup for the first time ever after winning the African qualifying tournament earlier this year.
Team USA was also blanked in its opener, falling 1-0 to defending champions Spain. Olaya Enrique scored in the eighth minute and the United States was unable to do anything from there.
The United States has won this event three times, but not since 2012. In fact, the team hasn’t played in the final since then and has failed to advance past the group stage in the last two tournaments. In 2023, the USA finished second in the CONCACAF Women’s U-20 Championship.
